Dorothy's House grounds the larger-than-life story of Wizard of Oz in the lived experiences of Kansas history. As an organization, Seward County Historical Society seeks to promote the "enrichment, education, and enjoyment" of locals and visitors alike.
Unfortunately, Dorothy's House is currently only accessible through our guided tour. Preserving the house and the Land of Oz is very important to us, so we require that one of our employees be leading all tour groups at all times.
Generally speaking, tours begin whenever we have interested visitors and available employees. However, there are any number of factors that can result in visitors having to wait for a tour (group size, tour guide availability, or delays in an earlier tour), so when in doubt, don't be afraid to call! We will happily provide information on the best way to receive a tour with minimal wait for that specific day.
Our maximum tour limit is generally ten people. If you are with a school or other large group that wishes to take the tour, please contact us at least two weeks in advance so we can make special arrangements.
Photos are encouraged! However, please refrain from taking video of our tour--we like to keep the full experience a surprise for visitors!
When possible, our tours will be led by "Dorothy Gale from Liberal, Kansas". Please do not ask for personal information beyond that; we are very proud of our Dorothy guides, and we ask that you respect their privacy and security while on the job.
However, the names of past Dorothy guides can be seen on our Dorothy wall of fame facing the museum's parking lot.
Service dogs are allowed in Dorothy's House and on our Land of Oz tour, as are other dogs if they are small enough that you can carry them through these buildings. If you have a larger dog and wish to take the tour, please contact the Liberal Convention and Tourism Bureau located across the street from us, as they have a small dog area where you can leave your four-legged friend while you are on tour.
To speak with us about potential additions to our collection, please call us at 620-624-7624 or send us a message using the contact form on this website. We are happy to accept any donations that we feel matches the focus and goals of our collection. We look forward to hearing from you!
